The Highlights of church Council meetings are posted monthly inform the congregation of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church about the decisions of the church Council.

HIGHLIGHTS OF COUNCIL MEETING - July 29, 2010

*The November Congregational Meeting will be on the 21^st.

*Wayne Shelly will be chair of the Mutual Ministry Committee.

*A gift of $3,000 was designated for Alicia Cooke from the Mission and Ministries Fund to help her continue to serve as an ELCA Missionary Teacher in Slovakia.

*Alicia Cooke will give a presentation on her work in Slovakia on Tuesday, August 10^th.

*Pastor Kern expressed his gratitude to the congregation and Council for a wonderful month of July and for making Heidi, Hannah and him feel welcome as they settle into the area.

*Cottage Meetings will be arranged and hosted by Council members to help Pastor meet the people of St. John's.

*Pastor Kern will be teaching a call this fall during Sunday School time on "Reclaiming the "L" word: Renewing the Church from its Lutheran Core" using Kelley A. Fryer's book of the same name.

*A Tuesday Night event will be held August 24^th as a baby shower for Hannah with a second gift to go to a shelter baby.

*Blessing of teachers, education professionals and Pre-school teachers - August 22^nd.

*Blessing of Students and Backpacks - August 29^th.

*Affirmation of Vocation - September 5^th.

*There will be one service on September 12^th at 10:00 am followed by a pig roast to kick off the fall and begin Dinner Club for the 2010 -2011 season.

*Blessing of the Animals - October 3^rd in the afternoon (to be held outside).

*There will be one service of Baptismal Festival Worship on October 31^st at 10:00 am, followed by a Fall Festival Event.

* The Youth Silent Auction on June 20^th raised $2,200 for the Youth Fund. Thanks to all who donated and/or otherwise helped with this event.

*The church will be a polling place for elections on September 14^th and November 2^nd.
